Hey everyone, I came across this forum while searching for advice and hope you can help. I'm trying to pick a workout plan focused on fat loss and toning rather than building a lot of muscle. I've been looking at apps like MadMuscles and FitBod, but many seem geared toward muscle gain. For those with similar goals, did you get better results with cardio/HIIT or a mix that includes strength training too?

I like trying different programs, and what worked the best for fat loss was circuits + basic weights. Even bands and light dumbbells at home help. Without strength work, it's harder to get that firm, sculpted look. MadMuscles has solid at-home options too.

  • I tried focusing only on cardio and it didn’t go well - I lost weight but felt weak. Strength brought energy back. Mixing both really works.

My work schedule changes a lot - some days I’m on my feet for 10 hours, other days I barely find 20 minutes. Because of that, I keep falling off my workout routine. Has anyone figured out how to stay consistent when your schedule is all over the place?

I do quick workouts early morning. Even 15 minutes works.

  • Has anyone here followed MadMuscles at home? I don’t have much equipment - just a mat and resistance bands. Curious if the program still works without dumbbells or a gym, or if it’s better to have some weights to see real results.

  • I train at home only. Works fine for me.

  • I started Mad Muscles with no dumbbells at all - just bands and bodyweight. The app adjusts exercises pretty well. Over time I bought one pair of dumbbells to add challenge, but the first month was fully at home and I still saw progress.

  • I always hear different opinions about fat loss - some people say nutrition is 80% of the result, others say training matters more. I want to lose fat without extreme diets. What actually works? How do you balance workouts and food?

  • Nutrition is 80% for me. When food is dialed in, weight drops even with light workouts.

  • Both matter, but nutrition drives fat loss the most. With Mad Muscles I follow the workout plan and the suggested meal approach - nothing extreme, just balanced food and consistent training. That combo really works long-term.

U can absolutely train with minimal equipment. MadMuscles has “no equipment” versions for most exercises, and bands are already a great start. If you decide to add gear later, a light dumbbell set is helpful, but not required at the beginning.

  • I think you need weights for real progress. Bodyweight is okay, but results are slower without resistance.

  • also do everything at home. I use chairs for dips, water bottles instead of dumbbells, and bands for pulls. It’s not fancy but it works.

  • Get at least one pair of adjustable dumbbells if you can. Best investment.

For me the biggest difference happened once I started paying attention to protein and recovery. MadMuscles helped because the workouts and nutrition are planned together.

  • Thanks everyone. Didn’t realize strength played such a big role in fat loss. Will try a balanced routine.

Training alone won’t fix things if diet is off. But mindful eating and regular movement together feel best. I add yoga + light strength and focus on clean, simple meals.

Without workouts everything comes back fast. Cardio + weights keep it off.

Consistency matters more than the perfect plan. Regular shorter workouts beat long sessions that you rarely fit in.

  • I started with simple dumbbells at home and combined them with short cardio sessions. Results came faster when I added strength work - I got leaner, not just lighter.
