My parents are getting older, and my mom had hip surgery last year, so reaching and twisting have become really hard for her. My dad mentioned that a bidet seat would make things much easier for both of them, especially the kind with a remote control so she does not have to turn around. I bought one for them as a gift, thinking I could just install it myself over a weekend. I watched some tutorials and it looked simple. But when I got to their house in North York and actually looked at their old toilet, the shut off valve was crusted with mineral deposits and would not budge. I tried lightly with some pliers and now I am afraid I might break it completely. Their bathroom is on the second floor and the last thing I want is a water leak damaging the ceiling below. So I gave up and decided to call a professional. Has anyone in Toronto hired a plumber or handyman just to install a bidet seat on an older toilet with a stuck valve, and what is a reasonable price to pay for something like this including maybe replacing that old valve if needed?
