Can I install turf over pea gravel?
The following will work if it's a finer grain gravel (quarter inch or less): You will need to compact the gravel to 90% at least then put a quarter inch of soil over it. This should prepare it as a subbase for the turf. To compact it you have two options depending on the size of the area. If it's a smaller size, you can simple buy a hand compactor from Home Depot. First hose down the gravel and get it wet, then use the hand compactor to compact the gravel. The second option is to rent a compacting conductor from a rental company and do it that way. Same thing, you will need to wet the gravel first. The last option would be to work with an installation company that can help you prepare the entire base as well as install the turf.
