  • Hi, everyone. I have a layover in Istanbul that’s only 1 hour and 15 minutes long, and I’m already starting to panic a little. I’m flying for work—it’s a direct flight—but the terminal is huge, judging by online reviews. I’ve never been there before, and my friends are scaring me with stories that it can take half an hour to run from one gate to another at a brisk pace. I’m worried I’ll simply get lost following the signs or get stuck at some security checkpoint. Where can I find the most detailed and easy-to-understand map of this terminal, showing the arrival and departure areas, so I can plan my route in advance?

  • And here’s another important detail that concerns me just as much. If the first flight is even slightly delayed, I’ll have to ask for fast-track service or some kind of assistance from the staff. Are there any special green corridors or shortcuts on the airport map for transit passengers with extremely tight layover times? I’d hate to end up spending the night on a bench just because I took the wrong turn at a fork in the path. Has anyone else dealt with such tight layovers? How did you manage?

  • It's definitely a very short layover, so you'll have to move quickly. The airport is enormous the dimensions simply blow your mind when you step through the door for the first time. The key is simply not to panic and follow the Short Connection International signs immediately if you notice them. Before a flight, I usually research places I haven’t been to yet. I recommend checking out the information here: https://istanbul-international-ist-airport.com/ . By the way, the airport’s phone number is listed there, so you can call and ask for all the details. You’ll have to run quite a bit, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. If you see that the line at transit security is huge, don’t hesitate to approach the staff with your ticket and ask for help—they usually let you skip the line. Are your tickets all with the same airline, or are they from different low-cost carriers?
