So I’ve been getting calls from the Law Office of Gary A. Bemis for a few weeks now about an old debt. I’m pretty sure it’s past the statute of limitations, but they’re being really aggressive, threatening wage garnishment and saying they’ll get a judgment if I don’t pay up immediately. They called my work number too, which was super embarrassing.
The calls are stressing me out, and I’m not sure what to do. They make it sound like they can just take my wages without any warning. I asked them to send me proof of the debt in writing, but the person on the phone just kept pushing me to pay over the phone.
Has anyone else dealt with this firm? How did you handle it? I’m trying to figure out if I should just try to negotiate with them or if I need to lawyer up. Any advice from someone who’s been through this would be great. I just don't want to make a wrong move here.
