The flat upstairs have having a new kitchen fitted, including electrical work, and one of the contractors has sawn through the lighting circuit for our flat - we've only just discovered a lot of our mains circuits run the floor void of the flat above.

I've explained to the owner of the flat that I'll need the repair signed off and a copy of the paperwork.

I know it can be self-certified by the contractor as long as they're registered.

I've had a quick google regarding building regs and I'm confused as to what certificate I need for this type of repair.

  • Jumping in on this older post — for lighting circuit repairs, you’ll need an Electrical Installation Certificate if it was new work or an Electrical Installation Condition Report for checks. It’s crucial to have a registered electrician handle it following Part P of Building Regulations. Anyone else faced similar issues with shared circuit access? Would love to know how folks have handled it!

  • You might want to get an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) for the work done, as it shows compliance with regulations. I once had to deal with a similar repair and found having a certified electrician signed up for the job saved hassles. For reliable services, I used https://mrelectrician.sg/. Their team was quite helpful and ensured that everything was up to standard.
