  • Hi all.

Currently doing integrated training, and have already completed some SPIC flights. I have searched for similar queries but it is still not completely clear to me the answer. I do hope that that this sub forum is the right place to post and if not, than apologies!

Currently doing integrated training, and have already completed some SPIC flights.

When filling in my logbook (the professional Jeppesen logbook which meets EU FCL.050 requirements) I know that I am to log the flight time in the Pilot-In-Command function time column, and the instructor who is onboard is to sign in the remarks column and to write SPIC there also. However, the uncertainty is whose name is suppose to be written in column 7´NAME PIC´.

I had originally written SELF into that column, but than i received some conflicting information and was told that the correct thing to do is to instead put the Instructors name in that column as it is technically them who is the legal Pilot in Command for the flight (even if they are just observing and not interfering with the flight in any way).

I know it is a pretty pedantic question but i do enjoy record keeping and take some pride in ensuring that my own logbook stays as accurate as possible (even if that includes needing to cross out a couple of entries to fix the data!)

    Appreciate any feedback!

  • I have always logged two names (or SELF and a name) for each flight that included instruction. For a Dual flight the instructor's name came first, then mine, for an SPIC flight I reversed that. That way you still have all the relevant names in that column.

  • For SPIC entries in a Jepp logbook, I just marked myself as PIC in the main column and added SPIC in the remarks, while the instructor signed off each flight to show supervision. During training, I also booked a few introductory flying lessons near me to get extra stick time, and those went in as dual with a clear note so examiners could see exactly what was what.
