  • My sliding glass door's original mortise lock fell into the door when I tried to get it out to fix it and I have NO idea what make or model it is or what size it is. I bought the piece that fell into the door (Prime-Line E 2014 Mortise Lock - Adjustable, Spring-Loaded Hook Latch Projection for Sliding Patio Doors Constructed of Wood, Aluminum and Vinyl, 3-11/16 In., 45º Keyway, Round Face) via amazon but it's literally like a centimeter or so too big to fit the slot. I can't seem to find any that are smaller. What can I do?

  • You can usually fish the mortise lock back up by removing the handle set, then using a bent coat hanger or a magnetic pickup tool to pull it into place so you can line up the screws. If the lock is cracked or won’t stay put, I’ve had it swapped during a Sliding door repair, which saved me a ton of frustration and kept the door working smoothly.
