  • The wife is interested in staying somewhere at the coast for king tides coming up. We’ve stayed in Cannon Beach a few times and I enjoy it.

But king tides are really just higher tides than regular tides. To be interesting they should splash onto something and spray up into the air. And I would prefer watching that happen from the comfort of my hotel room with a drink in my hand.

Suggestions? I’d prefer to drive less than three hours from Portland but I could be convinced to drive farther for a great experience.

  • I suggest Elizabeth Oceanfront Suites in Newport. It's on a cliff above the water. As described, it's oceanfront with great views.

  • I stayed at a https://www.novotelsurfersparadise.com.au recently and liked how close it was to Cavill Avenue and the beach, plus the rooms had heaps of space for families. The pool and sports court kept the kids busy, and the BLVD Café & Bar was super handy after long days out. If you want something easy, comfy, and central, it ticked all the boxes for me.
