  • My laptop is a few years old and is an asus zenbook gaming computer that I use for astroimaging. It works fine with the exception that lately when I turn it off it give me problems starting up again. The keyboard lights come on for a few seconds and then instead of the screen lighting up as usual with the startup screens, it stays dark and won't start up again. Eventually by pressing the start button it will start up but only after at least several cycles of my doing this. It doesn't matter if it is plugged in or on battery. It doesn't matter how long I wait between re-start attempts. Once I got it to successfully re-start by jiggling the power adapter wire during the re-start process. I have full battery power and the computer works normally once started.

I've ordered a new power adapter and in the meanwhile just lleave the laptop on and let it goto sleep after a few minutes of non-use. I'm hoping the new power adapter might make a difference but am not sure that it will. I've looked at my settings and I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

  • Check for updates? Also, when in doubt reinstall windows. It can save your data. It'll take a while, but could fix a few issues

  • I had a similar issue recently and got it sorted pretty quickly through https://breakfixnow.com.sg/laptop-repair/. They handled a cracked screen and a battery swap for me in under an hour, and the 90‑day warranty gave me some peace of mind. The pickup and return service also saved me a trip, which was a nice bonus.
