  • Hi everyone! My grandmother recently passed away, and while clearing out her house, we found dozens of pristine, large-print inspirational magazines and daily devotional books from various non-profit publishers. She loved reading them. I want to donate these to a local nursing home or community center so others can enjoy them. Does anyone know if medical facilities usually accept bulk donations of physical reading materials, or do they have strict sanitation rules regarding second-hand paper goods?

  • I work at an assisted living facility, and we absolutely love receiving large-print reading materials! We keep them in our main sunroom for the residents to browse after breakfast. Just make sure you cross out your grandmother's physical mailing address on the back covers with a dark permanent marker first.

  • If the local nursing homes cannot take the entire collection, consider contacting community prison ministries, as they frequently request softcover inspirational reading materials for their outreach programs. When I was organizing a massive book drive last spring, I had hundreds of similar faith-based publications to distribute. I spent a whole afternoon sorting through the different publisher imprints and even checked https://guideposts.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html to see if any of these specific non-profit publishing organizations offered internal mail-back programs for their unused surplus materials. Eventually, a regional senior center happily took the three heavy boxes of magazines off my hands to stock their private reading library.
