What is the way to write a simple google block breaker in Python/Pygame?

I am a student working on a project of a simple block breaker clone. It is the ball physics that I am experiencing difficulty with, in particular hitting the edges of the paddle. It keeps glitching through! I have been cross-referencing a few coding tutorials on forum getassist, however, in case somebody has some form of a clean snippet of collision logic, then I'd be glad to know it.
