  • One of my old folks' (newish installed) Upvc windows won't close. The metal mech Yale 'strip' on the underside of 1 window, clashes with the frame's metal recess sections. Pink arrows show where A clashes with B.

So effectively, the window just needs to be 'shoved up' say 5mm to gain the clearance at the btm. The window was fine before, tho I did notice it was always a very close/ tight fit to close this window.

Any idea if this is a job one can do, as opposed to getting a pro in? Looked on YouTube but can't see the type. This one opens at the btm outwards (hinges on top L & top R).

    Thanks for any help

  • Yup - the opener has dropped. If it's under guarantee then yes, get them back in. Sounds like they bodged it in the first place if it's always been tight.

  • I’ve had a similar clash before, and nudging the sash up a few millimetres on the hinge side sorted it. The flag hinges usually have an Allen key height adjuster, so you can lift it without taking anything apart. I once had Hadleigh Glass Trade sort out a batch for me, and they showed me how tiny height tweaks make a big difference. Worth checking the keeps too in case one’s sitting a touch high.
