Why are some of my phone numbers missing after converting VCF to CSV?

  • Hey everyone,
I’m converting my VCF contacts into a CSV file, but contacts that have multiple phone numbers don’t convert properly. Only the primary number shows up, while work, home, or alternate numbers disappear entirely. I checked the VCF file and the data is definitely there. I need a method that extracts every phone number without dropping anything, especially when I’m preparing the file for an import into another platform.

  • Hi,
The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ root of the trouble is the way the majority of converters are designed to read only the first TEL entry from a VCF. Users who are attempting to export VCF contacts to CSV may have their secondary numbers skipped if the tool does not recognize custom TYPE labels such as WORK, HOME or MOBILE2. In the same way, I had an issue when I was preparing the data for a CRM import. The thing that eventually worked was changing to Softaken vCard to CSV Converter, because it fetches each and every number in the VCF file and puts them into different columns instead of leaving them out. Moreover, it is compatible with the mixed VCF formats so that even the older backups are not losing any fields. The preview gave me a chance to make sure that all the numbers were there before I saved them. When I applied this method, the CSV had all the phone numbers as they were without any data missing. It is definitely a much better way than just using simple ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌converters.

  • Hallo!
