  • Hello,

Something that has been bugging me for a long time, my original tyres on my kuga was 235/50/18 v xl contisport contact 5, got front replaced 2 years ago by ford and said tyre has upgraded to premium contact 6 101 Y XL. Now i need another set and its upgraded to premium contact 7 101 Y XL. When they say upgraded I assume they are just selling latest tyre model.

Now am I wasting money on having XL? And Y speed rating? I don’t tow anything, is anyone else just sticking to what was on the car originally?

  • Tyre manufacturers update the model regularly so the grip gets a little better as time goes on.

  • I had the same issue with my rear tyres wearing faster and figured it was down to alignment too. I swapped mine front to back and it helped even it out a bit. Also found some good prices and options for replacements on https://pneusquebec.net/pneus-225-70r19-5/ , worth checking if you're trying to match the spec without paying through the nose.
