  • I have never seen any octagonal barns around this part of the Midwest. We do have a few round barns and lot of gambrel roof barns though. I am interested in the unique rafter structure used to build some of the gambrel barns - the Shawver Truss. To date I have not seen one in person. I am thinking it may have been a regional construction technique. Sears, Roebuck & Co. also appeared to carry their own slightly modified version of the Shawver truss in a kit barn.

If my lottery ticket ever wins, I have designed a house built with Shawver trusses that would appear to be an vintage barn converted into a house from both the outside and inside.

  • Those barns were pretty popular, sold by Sears and Roebuck as it's referred to at the bottom of the last page.

  • I built a similar setup last year and found that sticking to proven designs really paid off. I made sure the materials used met iso 9000 https://itptemplates.com/iso-9000-for-dummies/ standards, just to be confident in the consistency and quality across the board. It helped lessen any second-guessing with structural integrity later. Especially with that much weight on top, little things like that gave me peace of mind.
