  • Just a heads up!! I have a Epson WF-4820 printer and last week the auto update downloaded and installed their latest firmware. Big problem after that as all my ink cartridges came up empty and needed replacement. They are aftermarket cartridges and have worked just great until this update. Doing some research, it seems that Epson with this new firmware locks out any ink cartridges that are not Epson original. I can buy remanufactured cartridges for $31 and change, but Epson supplied run $74 and change. So if your printer stopped working the firmware is to blame. You can reset back to original once you reload the older firmware which is available still at Epson, for how long who knows. Also, I recommend you turn off their stupid auto update.
I would have never purchased an Epson had I known this was coming. Its like buying a Daiwa reel and finding out later you can only use Daiwa line. Like I said its just a heads up on how sophisticated electronics are becoming and sneaky.

  • I just wanted to ask if anyone's tried using third-party software like WIC Reset to deal with waste ink pad issues?

  • Ran into the same issue with an Epson update killing my aftermarket cartridges. Switched some label work over to an Epson Color Label Printer - https://www.omegabrand.com/barcode-printers/epson-colorworks-printer/

It’s been perfect, prints clean, colors pop, no fuss at all. Keeping auto-updates off now to avoid surprises.
