When I bought my 12 year old house 3 years ago, I knew a roof replacement was going to be in my future at some point. My nephew works in sales for a well known and respected roofing company so I had him come out to take a look and see what condition my roof is in. It’s not in bad shape but the attic ventilation is failing and the temps up there are way too high which is causing the shingles to deteriorate. Instead of just putting off the inevitable, I’m getting the roof replaced. I’d been thinking about going to some sort of metal roof but because the roof on my single story house with a 4 car attached garage is pretty big, the extra cost is just not worth it. I got an estimate from another company which was significantly lower but those guys didn’t do a thorough inspection and never even pointed out where I was having any issues. Nothing would have been repaired or updated, I’d have just gotten new shingles over the old roof and I don’t believe it would last. I think I’m going to pay for a quality job so it will be the last time I’m going to think about the roof. You guys have any roof replacement stories or things you wish you’d done differently?
