Does turf smell like plastic?

The brand new artificial grass, at the first time you open up the roll, there might be a bit of “new product smell” which is not necessarily a plastic smell. Before installation, you always need to lay the turf flat under the sun for it to “relax” for an hour or so, during such time period, the new product smell will be vaporized.
