  • Do you think it's a good idea to install artificial grass in a graveled area?

  • The question will be how fine of the gravels you have. We normally recommend to have a layer of drain rocks of 2and your gravels can certainly do the same job if it is about the size of the same as drain rocks: 1/4-1/2diameters, then on top of that, you will need something finer than the drain rock for a layer of 1-1/2 thick so you can compact and provide a solid yet smooth surface to lay artificial grass.
Given above statement, regardless what is your current area being gravel or not, you still need to make sure to excavate and build your sub base properly, simply laying artificial turf over any pre-exsting surface will not be a good idea and I will definitely recommend against it.

  • Good insight. Planning to have my first artificial lawn installed next month. I have read so many good reviews about artificial grasses comparing to natural grass.

  • I used to lay my artificial grass without any infill or drain rocks and it doesn't last long. Better have a good sub-base and excavation.
